It's just under 2 months since the last Heavy Rotation, which might be the shortest gap between them ever. I also have a few others albums I played a handful of times, such as Violent Femmes' self-titled, but not quite enough to include here. A fact worth noting is that half of these I have been listening to via CD; in fact, I've picked up more CDs in the past few months than I have in years. Anyway, here are some words about what I've been spinning (physically or digitally) of late... I wasn't planning on doing this today. It's been almost 3 months since I last did a shuffle and I haven't really missed it. I last did a Superchunk-only version back in July, not long after I was on the Rockin' the Suburbs podcast talking about the band. In that post, I mentioned how I hope there would be an announcement of a new album soon. Well, their most recent album, What a Time to Be Alive , just came out on Friday. Naturally, I gorged on their music in anticipation and I've already played the new one a couple times. Furthermore, I had some gift cards from Christmas still hanging around and I have the new album in my iTunes (and a physical copy along the way), as well as new digital copies of their self-titled debut from 1990 (the last of their studio albums I didn't have) and their 2003 compilation Cup of Sand . I probably should have done this Superchunk shuffle last week, since that's when my call about the band made it on an episode of Rockin' the Suburbs, but it doesn't really matter. This Thanksgiving week has been great, but it's time to refocus and remember that there are four weeks until Christmas. I have to do work for my TTT courses all the way up to the 23rd and school goes through the 20th. There are only two more weeks of swimming lessons, so my time will be freed up somewhat at that point. Still, it's going to be busy right up until Christmas, but I know I will get through my work and truly be able to enjoy that next break. I can't believe this is the 400th time I've done a Sunday Shuffle. I've had periods where I wandered away from the feature over the last 9 1/2 years, but I always come back. I've liked the idea of shuffle mode ever since I got a 5 CD changer in the early 1990s. I love listening to albums, of course, but it's nice to mix things up and hear songs in a different context. I've always been into stats and being able to see my play counts has been enjoyable too. It's always nice to hear that people like scrolling through my list each week, but I've always wanted to share the music. I like the Spotify affords me the opportunity to let everyone hear what I hear each Sunday morning; I hope you're enjoying listening along. In the weeks leading up to this, I've thought about announcing that I would be retiring this feature for a while. Last week was a struggle, as I had to get back in the swing of schoolwork in addition to my two jobs. I definitely learned something, though, and I'm already doing better at the balance.
