Today I'm focusing on Teenage Fanclub. A couple weeks ago I ripped my CD of Bandwagonesque and downloaded the last remaining albums of theirs I didn't own (except for A Catholic Education , which isn't available in mp3). A couple days ago Norman Blake (one of the three songwriters in the band) tweeted that a new album was almost done. It's been 5 years since their last one, so this was exciting news. They are one of my favorite bands and if you don't know them, I highly recommend checking out their brand of power pop and slightly less-powered pop. I wasn't going to do a Shuffle this morning; instead, I was listening to Ivan & Alyosha, because I found out yesterday that they have a new album coming out in May. After I finished All The Times We Had , I decided to do one of my more focused shuffles. Today's band is Superchunk, a band I wish I had listened to back in the 90s but has become one of my favorites over the last 5 years. Seeing them in concert a few years back is still a highlight. I added a bunch of new albums to iTunes last weekend...and have been in shuffle mode ever since. Just felt like one of those weeks, I guess.
