Sunday Shuffle #410

It's the Mother's Day edition of the Sunday Shuffle...which doesn't really change much of anything. We are going to see Captain America; Civil War in a little while and I have cleaning to do, so there will probably be a gap in the songs this morning. Not that you'll notice, but I thought I'd give you the inside baseball. I saw Bob Mould in concert at The Metro with my friend Scott on Friday night. It was a great show. I almost made today's shuffle one that just focused on him, but since I've mostly listened to him this week, I thought I'd take a tour around my iTunes instead. If you're interested, I put together a Spotify playlist of the set. Anyway, Happy Mother's Day to those of you to whom this applies! Let's get to today's ten... 1. Shadow of Love/Sloan (27) - last played on 11/27/15 2. Cheers and Applause/Portastatic (6) - last played on 5/3/15 3. Pedestrian At Best/Courtney Barnett (15) - last played on 5/1/16 4. Armchairs/...

Sunday Surf (Sunday Shuffle #405)

Nada Surf released their seventh studio album, You Know Who You Are , two weeks ago. I've been a fan of the band since Let Go in 2002 and was really looking forward to the new one so much so that I listened to their music a lot in the days before that release. As part of that process, I ripped their CDs into iTunes so I could play everything I owned; I only had their last album, 2012's The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy , as a digital release. That all goes to explaining the play count disparity between songs from different albums and why play counts are so low for an album like The Weight Is A Gift (from 2005), which is one of my favorite albums. I might as well mention their other two albums that might appear on today's shuffle - Lucky from 2008 and If I Had A Hi-Fi from 2010, which is a covers record. If you don't know the band, you owe it to yourself to listen along at some point this week via my Spotify playlist, or just start with Let Go and work your way...

Super Bowl Shuffle 2016 (Sunday Shuffle #399)

I hope Peyton Manning can win another Super Bowl today...but I have the feeling the Panthers are going to run away with it. I do hope it's a competitive game...sure, deviled eggs and tiny meatballs and crab dip and Yuengling is all well and good, but a boring game is no fun. Before I get to the game, I have school work to do. I think I can let the shuffle run to 50 songs while I'm working, though. It's fun to do the extended versions on these days and since it's Super Bowl L... I. Agony of Laffitte/Spoon (17) - last played on 1/23/16 II. Sunday Shuffle #375

It's the last Shuffle of the summer season - school starts back up on Wednesday. Of course, summer is actually still going on and the weather is certainly typical for August - my 4.75 mile run this morning was rough in the humidity. I do have a couple days off, which I will enjoy as much as I can. Anyway, it's already after 9:00, so I'd better get to today's ten... 1. Heavy Rotation #22

It's been a while since I've done one of these entries, a combination of a lack of focus during the summer and how Spotify has changed my listening habits. Over the past couple weeks, however, I've been coming back to three albums over and over... Nada Surf/The Weight Is A Gift - This album is not new to me; I'm pretty sure I bought it the day it came out back in 2005 (when I still bought CDs on a regular basis). I was a big fan of their previous album, Let Go , and had high expectations for this one. I was not disappointed. Why am I listening to it a bunch now? I came back for "Always Love," the soaring song of positivity that is one of my unofficial theme songs. Once I started listening, I couldn't stop. This is melodic rock/power pop of the highest order and the first 7 songs are unimpeachable. After a few quieter ones, it closes with the charging "Imaginary Friends." If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and give it a Spotify s...
