4th Time Around

Ever since I deleted my original Shooflypie blog, I've been trying to find a way to get back to it. I've not been able to use that original URL again and I've gone with Another Piece of Shooflypie and Shooflypie Season 3. If you want to dig into my archives, those would be the places to go. Neither of those felt quite right to me in the name, however. So, I've decided to bring back my original name while shifting my URL to my own name, which effectively marries my presences on social sites and my original e-mail address to my blog name and other e-mail address. It feels good.

You might wonder if anything will be different as I go forward. The answer is probably not. I do want to write more often and in more depth but I have 2 reading-intensive classes starting on Jan. 10 and they probably won't leave a lot of time. I'm not giving up at all, just being realistic. I can promise that the Sunday Shuffle will continue - it's such a part of my Sundays now that I don't think I could stop if I wanted to. And I don't.

So, I hope you plug me into your Google Reader or whatever you use and check back with me as 2011 gets started. Happy New Year!

Heavy Rotation #37

This past Friday was a big release day, with 4 new albums that I will probably be listening to over and over again. That means it's probably time to write about what I've been into over the last month-and-a-half or so. Sound good? Phoebe Bridgers/Stranger in the Alps - Before last fall, I hadn't listened to any of Bridgers' music. Sure, I knew of her, but that was it. It wasn't until Boygenius (the group she's in with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus) that I really heard anything she'd done. Their EP is great, so I thought it was time to expand my horizons and give this one a listen. Better late than never is a cliche for a reason, right? Anyway, the album starts off very strong with "Smoke Signals" and "Motion Sickness." The former is contemplative and moody and lovely with killer lyrics while the latter is more prickly and up-tempo with (again) killer lyrics. It's a strong start to the album. I don't know if it's the weather, nostalgia, or something else, but I woke up feeling like I wanted to do a Sunday Shuffle today.
